Thanks to a grant from The Kiwanis Club of Barberton, children, parents and teachers now have access to Playaway bookpacks at the Barberton Public Library.
The grant allowed the Library to purchase 28 bookpacks ranging from picture books and easy readers to beginning chapter books for 1st and 2nd graders. Each bookpack contains one Playaway device, a battery for the Playaway and copies of the books recorded on the Playaway. The number of books per bookpack ranges from two to five. Some bookpacks contain books all by the same author (for example Mo Willems) or from the same series (for example Peggy Parish's Amelia Bedelia), and others have a theme such as dinosaurs or slightly scary stories.
Audiobooks are a great tool for early and reluctant readers. They can aid in developing early reading skills in young children and help struggling readers by modeling good reading skills, improving listening skills, and introducing children to new vocabulary. The talented narrators of audiobooks also help to generate enthusiasm for reading, foster children's imaginations and make listening to audiobooks a great experience.
The bookpacks are available for check out in the Children's Department, and circulate for two weeks.
The book lists below are currently unavailable, we apologize for the inconvenience.
