Find hidden book covers, complete special word games and puzzles, answer trivia questions and watch a movie or play a wii game, all on a special theme! This year is the 200th anniversary of an ever-increasingly popular topic of historical study – the Year Without a Summer - one of the harshest weather patterns in recorded history. This program will detail the reasons for the poor weather, as well as the results of the weather patterns on the Western Reserve.

Barberton Inn

Barberton’s quick growth after founding led to a need for overnight accommodations.The Barberton Inn, which was one of the most magnificent hotel structures in northern Ohio, officially opened on January 26, 1895. After several unprofitable years caused by high fire insurance and inability to compete with newer hotels, the Inn closed in 1915. The program will feature the too-short history of the Inn with photos.
 

Underground Railroad

The first slaves arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, and by the Civil War there were over 4 million slaves in the United States. Almost as early as there were slaves, there were citizens who opposed slavery. The term Underground Railroad has become a symbolic term given to the routes slaves used to escape to freedom. This program will detail the history of the Underground Railroad, focusing on Ohio's participation.
 

Aviation in Barberton

Most of us know Wilbur and Orville Wright made their famous first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903; however, did you know that Barberton also had an aviation company in the early 1900s? The Barberton Aviation Company was organized on November 11, 1909. Learn about Barberton’s early pilots and flights.
